The Myth: “Wix Can’t Rank”

Okay, let’s just cut straight to the quick, shall we?
The idea that Wix websites can’t rank on Google is a myth. It’s just not true❗
That's a Straight Up LIE!
I’ve been ranking Wix websites since 2016. Real businesses. Real results.
But here’s the thing. Digital marketers still love pushing this lie. You know the ones — they’re the marketers trying to sell you something else. They’ll say your platform is the problem, so they can charge you thousands to rebuild your site from scratch. Usually on WordPress or something custom-coded or Shopify or whatever.
And it’s not because they're better. It’s just what they know how to use. It’s not about the platform. It’s about the strategy. And a lot of times? It’s your strategy that needs fixing.
What Google Actually Looks For
So what does Google actually look for? What about Bing? What about AI tools that scan your content?Because let’s be real — SEO isn’t just about Google anymore.
First off, Google doesn’t blacklist Wix. Neither do Bing nor AI search engines. None of them are sitting around judging you because you used a drag-and-drop builder.
What matters is how helpful and trustworthy your site is. That’s it.
So here’s what actually matters — for real:
✔ What Google looks for:
Can your site be crawled easily?
Is the content original and useful?
Do your page titles and headings make sense?
Is the load time fast enough not to annoy people?
Are people linking to your site?
✔ What Bing looks for:
Clean site structure and schema markup
Clear location info if you're a local biz
Fast-loading pages
Trust signals like reviews and consistent updates
✔ What AI tools look for:
Structured content with clear headers
Plain language and clear intent
Authoritativeness and relevance
Internal links and citations
Wix can check all of those boxes — if it’s set up right.
What Actually Matters for SEO (And Has Nothing to Do With Your Platform)
1. Keywords That Make Sense
You’ve got to know what your customers are searching for. Then you’ve got to make sure those exact phrases show up in your page titles, headers, body text, image names, all of it. That’s not platform stuff. That’s strategy.
2. Real Content
Are you writing blog posts that are actually helpful? Are you updating your site at all? Are you saying anything worth reading — or are you just listing services and crossing your fingers?
3. Structure
This is the nerdy stuff. Title tags. Alt text. Internal links. Heading hierarchy. Wix lets you control all of it. Most people just don’t. We go into sites all the time where none of this is set up — and it’s usually the thing holding them back.
4. Site Speed
Yeah, Wix used to have a bad rep for speed. That’s what you’ll hear people bring up first. But it’s gotten better. Use optimized images. Don’t stack a million apps. And don’t treat your homepage like a junk drawer. Speed is fixable. You just need to know what to fix.
5. Consistency and Backlinks
Post regularly. Share your content. Get links from other legit businesses, blogs, news, partners — whatever makes sense. This isn’t a Wix thing. It’s SEO 101.
So… Can a Wix Site Rank?
Yes. Absolutely. I’ve done it. I do it. I’ll keep doing it. It works.
The problem isn’t Wix. It’s how your site’s set up. It’s the strategy that’s missing. It’s the SEO company that gave you a pretty PDF every month but never touched the backend of your site.
